There are some factory refirbished JBL 2226H woofers for sale for $450. The advantage is the price but what could be the downside of getting them? They are reconed but does JBL check the voice coils ect. before sending them out?

Refurbished JBL Pro woofers are 100% as good as new, provided the basket is in good shape and the recone kit used is a genuine JBL part.

As Wayne said, recones are as good as the originals, but I have no idea how you would tell its a genuine JBL, without measuring (or having a trustworthy source).

$450 each is a bit expensive for re-cones. You can find them brand new for around there.

I picked up mine from Ebay at under $200 a pop. They are all original cones (one is a 2226HPL). You can tell originals by the back of the cone having drips, and the dustcap having perfectly symmetrical "bunny ears", where the 2 leads are punched in the center.

They're $450 for the pair still in the box from JBL so I guess I'll jump on them and order the rest of the parts from Wayne. Thanks for the response.
