What kind of stereo system do you have in your garage? I have one that I took out there because I upgraded the one in my home. Kind of a hand-me-down in a way, but it's good enough for when I'm working on the car.
We don't have a garage, so we don't have a garage system. The closest we have to that is a Dewalt radio that will charge 18V Dewalt batteries, sitting outside on our front porch. We listen to it whenever we're outside grilling, washing the cars, etc.

Hi I'm fortunate to have a lot of gear to choose from, so mine is a Marantz 2265B receiver and a pair of Altec Lansing 1010 speakers. All stuff from about 1975 or so that really stands the test of time.

I agree that the old stuff is good, but I wouldn't stop at just build quality. I think in most respects, sound quality is better too. It isn't that modern gear can't sound better - It can. Better materials and better designs are out there. The problem is that the quest for cheap and small has given us just that, cheap and small.

I know what you mean about cheap and small. It's nearly impossible to go into a store like Radio Shack or Best Buy these days and find a true, quality component stereo system. Nowadays, all the stores keep in stock are those all-in-one-box sets with speakers the size of your hand. =/
