I have a theater room that is 14 x 20'. It is a perfect rectangle.
My question is this: there is one door that opens into a hallway.
It is centered on the long wall facing in to a hallway. What effects should I see, if any, if I open the door or close it?
My wife prefers it open so she can hear the door bell, etc. I prefer it closed. There is a vent directly over the door that passes air out of the room and back to the AC. It is simply two grates, one on each side of the wall over the door.

Thanks guys. I'm not sure what modal distribution is, but I have decided to put a light in the room that triggers when the bell rings.

I don't know a lot about the technical side of this topic but I've seen the reduced sound, in both volume and quality, in action. My father is a bit deaf and he has to watch TV in a room with all the doors closed. That's a nuisance when the weather is good and you want some fresh air.
