Have you ever had a substantial part of your music collection wiped out/ruined and gone forever? It happened to me when my iPod Touch died and I failed to back the songs up anywhere else. You really need to protect your music in the digital age!

Sad, Yes, but it was a number of years ago and someone stole about half my LP collection. I have been able to replace many, but some are very expensive to replace - even on the used market.

I haven't recently lost a large part of my collection, but about ten years ago someone broke into my house and wiped out a large percentage of my cd collection.
I have never had any of my music stolen, but I did lose a whole bunch of downloaded songs when my computer crashed. We had to take everything back down to factory settings to fix it.
Yep. Backup and backup and backup. I have two separate hard drives that I back up to. I don't do digital audio besides for my iPod and such, but I rip most of my new CD's as I get them now and a few of the harder to get older ones just in case of theft.

I lost my music once after my computer from college crashed, but fortunately I still had a lot of CDs with many of the same songs, so I was able to get a good amount of my songs back.

You haven't the slightest clue! Once I downloaded 10$ worth of music from amazon directly onto my mp3 player. Stupidly I did not back up the music onto my hard drive.
I accidentally dropped my mp3 player in the yard and it got ran over. It was the saddest day of my life, I felt so naked and vulnerable.
Yes, it does definitely stink to lose all of your music. All though it seems to be slowing becoming archaic, burning your music onto CD would help a lot.
