Tom Waits has a new album coming out in Nov. It will be a three record setcalled "Orphans,Brawlers, and Theives" or something like that. Over 35 songs; some new and some old. Start looking at the end of Oct. Should be good stuff. I've been listening to the Red Hot Chili's cover album. They do songs from other bands in their own inimitable style; nice stuff. Called ,"Under The Covers." They do "Castles Made Of Sand", from Jimi. " Subterranean Homesick Blues." from Bobby D. Good stuff.

Those songs you mentioned are from their first studio LP. This, 2nd LP is without Nico, but still with John Cale. The 3rd and 4th studio albums ("The Velvet Underground", "Loaded") are without him, replaced with Doug Yule, and in somewhat different feeling, less "avantgarde". "The Last Great American Whale" from "NY" album is one of Lou Reed`s political songs...and I don`t like most of them too much. Sometimes he is brilliant, but sometimes pretentious and boring, IMO. He is a much better in 3 chords wonders like "Dirty Blvd" - and I remember this album for that fantastic G-D-A-D riff. Hey, John Cale has a few very good albums lately, "Hobosapiens" - for example.

Picked up a copy of Alligator's 20th anniversary double CD and John Mayall's "Wake Up Call" at the local used shop this morning. For John's newer stuff this has always been one of my favorites as it has Mavis Staples, Albert Collins, Buddy Guy, and Mick Taylor playing on it.
