My spouse and I are hoping to get our son into the drums when he is age appropriate. What age would you recommend we start and what kind of kit should we look into?

You could get him some drums to bang on at pretty much any age. If he seems interested, maybe he could start taking formal lessons around age 6 or 7.

Buy an electronic kit to save your sanity. I have a discontinued Hart Dynamics Prodigy kit, and it isn't 1/2 bad.
