Hi, I seem to recall that there is some software out there that can re-do the output levels. Also cleans up stuff if needed. I don't recall the title or brand, but a google search should turn it up. I had a Turtle Beach Soundcard with software that would do that a few years ago. I needed some different features so it is history now.

Have you considered the possibility that the quiet track might be well recorded with a lower overall level to preserve the naural dyanmics of the music?
Thanks for linking the video; that was very interesting! I would be ok with an overall low level if there was a lot of dynamic range (like in that example), but the songs I have still seem pretty compressed.
The video was fascinating! I had no idea how much compression could hurt the sound quality of a song. Given its popularity, it would seem I'm not alone.

I have noticed this with many of the mp3 downloads from amazon, especially the new music. The levels may be ok on a CD but when converted to mp3 the format does not have the dynamic range of the CD. The mp3's sound like crap. I've complained to amazon and they will give me a refund but the only way to get a clean tune is to buy the CD. And a few of them are over level recorded too.
