Hi,
At the risk of being shot down here and whilst I know that it is not economical to do it, I would dearly like to try the Pi 2 Towers with a H290 instead of the usual Vifa DX25 tweeter. This is purely because I want to use a horn and the Pi4 or 3 are just too large for my situation. Yes, I know there is a huge efficiency difference between the horn and the standard tweeter. Therefore this would require alternative crossover or what changes would have to be made to it or which crossover to use?
Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated???

That's what the eight π loudspeaker is.

Thanks for that - Its just that I was hoping to use the current 2Pi Tower size rather than the 8 Pi, which is wider than I really want. I guess that I could try with the 2 Pi Towers and the crossover of the 8Pi.
Thanks for your help.

The problem is you can't match the directivity of the Alpha 10 with the H290 horn unless you use the midhorn. I mean, you can use the crossover rolloff to "squeeze" the pattern, but you can't get a good acoustic directivity match unless you use the horn.

Thanks again for the eduation, Wayne. I've had similar questions.

When I first lit-up my 2pi parts, I did it back to back (unfairly arguably) with some pretty efficient horns. It created one of those Learning moments and I remember my knee-jerk was "needs horns". But then I walked around. And around. And around. And nothing changed--and I just smiled. That was another Learning moment Wink

Soooo, feel free to ignore, but if the supply-chain was still the same, would you still choose the old piezos or do you prefer the domer for some reason?

That's a tough question for me, because I used those piezo tweeters for over 25 years, and had a sentimental attachment to them for the little boxes. They were inexpensive and sounded good. I think they were much better than the generics or the "orange masher" variant. Made for a good, inexpensive, high efficiency speaker.

But all that said, the dome tweeter we now use is much, much smoother. If that part had been available in 1980 at that same price point, I would have used it. But back then, all the dome tweeters were at least 5dB too low in sensitivity. I just couldn't make a high-efficiency speaker back then with domes or ribbons, and I did search for both.

The more I read the worse it gets. I am in the process of mending an alpha 10 with psd2002 and h290 horn, as Derro asked.
Now I will remove my delta 12lf from their seperate cabinets and build pi 3's. Wayne, can I get the plans for pi 3's ?
