Given the near ruler flat response of the 2206 and it's excellent LF performance in a small ported enclsoure, any chance that the 3 pi returns with this driver? Seems like less XO work needed given the response.

I'm with you - I really like that driver. Had it in a couple prototype configurations, one with a compression horn and another with a soft dome tweeter. But in the end, I wasn't comfortable with either one. Both measured well and sounded good, but they just didn't feel right. Sorry for the subjectivity - take that for what it is - a very good speaker can be built from that driver, so DIYers shouldn't hesitate.

Then again, have you seen our fully upgraded three π with the TD12S woofer?...
