My father-in-law did three tours in 'Nam (Army grunt), when I asked if he was going to come visit his response was #%% No! Pol Pot did a lot of damage to the country before the Vienamese finally invaded and removed him from power. Country still seems pretty shakey, but they seem to be coping with their traumatic history.
Hopefully my 24 months in country will be uneventful.

Will do...your speakers will be exposed to a whole new demographic. Hopefully I can pick up an inexpensive tube amplifier while in SE Asia. I know the nOrh SE-9 integrated amplifier is made in Bankok, Thailand which is only about 300 mi away.

Made a lot of progress today, will have them ready for shipment by end of weekend (I was able to come home early this week from Newport to prepare the house for moving).
First, routered the edges of the oak trim glued to the front panel. The oak strip was both thicker and wider than the intended space to account for "variations."
After flush trimming the oak the speakers looked MUCH better, I was a little concerned about the process but it worked great. A little woodfiller and a lot of sanding followed.

Finally, two coats of primer (first coat white and second coat gray). Starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Tomorrow - or Saturday - will veneer the cabinets. Going to try the "Better Bond Titan DX™" Contact Cement from veneersupplies.com. Since most of the work is in my home theater I wanted to avoind VOC's, reviews of Titan DX on the net have been good, so I decided to go for it. Also, need to sand the primer and add a third coat.
The plan is to paint the front/rear baffles and stain/seal the veneer once I arrive in Cambodia, not enough time for paint/polyurethane to cure before they will be packed for shipment.

I have not veneered before and am not sure whether there is a particular order to gluing the sheets to the cabinet. I am planning on starting with the bottom, then both sides and finally the top. Is this order correct? If not, what is the best order?
Will use router with a new flush cut bearing bit to trim.

Oh, wow, that push-out will help with your schedule.
I am not a woodworker, don't even play one on TV, and tend to defer to those that I trust like Epstein. But I have dabbled a time or two with finishing, and I do the sides that won't be seen first (bottom and back) and then the sides, top and front. Same order you said. My reasoning is the last surfaces get the "final" attention, so they are probably going to be the best. I have no idea if that is what the woodworking pros do or not, so in this case, I'm not sure it's worth 2¢. Just a thought.
