Does anybody likes the sound of the pipe organs? I have to admit that I am not really a fan. It is kind of too busy for me. Even in a cathedral with all the acoustic, I feel the noise is too overpowering. What do you think?
I disagree. I am lucky to have a Basilica in my town, and I love going there to hear the pipe organ. They have several concerts during the year and it is a big deal. It just sounds majestic.

I love them on records, but I've never heard them in person. A Boston concert where they drag out that massive pipe organ set is the closest Ill probably get to hearing one in a context that I like.

I suppose it's a personal thing. I've known people who were completely unmoved by the sound of a pipe organ in a reverberant cathedral, but when the organist pulls out all the stops and plays a choral type hymn I get goosebumps. Try this one from Diana's funeral. Does it do anything for you?
I like pipe organ music sometimes. It depends on my mood. I used to live in the parsonage of a church and every Sunday we would hear the organ bright and early.
I love the sound of pipe organs once in a while. I like classical music though, so maybe that helps. I think music by Bach sounds great on the pipe organ. My favorite piece is Tocatta & Fugue in D Minor. I used to play it decently on the piano, but it sounds way cooler on the organ.
