Wayne, I am coming into the home stretch on three 4 pis. I am mounting the crossover boards to the bottom of the speaker using a shower pan liner as damping. However, I am worried about how hot the separate R3 (8 ohm, 100watt) resistor gets -- it must be separate and have heat sinks for a reason. I was going to mount it vertically to the side of the speaker with no gasket direct to the mdf. I was worried the gasket might make the heat sink on the back infective. Does this sound OK?

Don't worry, you can mount the resistor directly to the bottom of the cabinet with or without a gasket underneath. There's plenty of heat dissipation - It was designed to be mounted this way.
