I friend of mine told me that there is a way to transfer music from a CD to an iPOD via iTunes and that you can do it legally for free. He said he'd show me how, but is it really true you can do this legally for free ?

If you purchased the CD and it is your iPod, I wouldn't think it would be illegal. The illegal part would be if you transfer that music to someone else's iPod or through the internet. Of course, I don't know the latest laws concerning copyrights, but to me it would be the same as transferring a casette to your computer.

Just download iTunes, connect your iPod and let it sync with iTunes, put in your CD and let iTunes rip it to your hard drive at whatever bitrate you want, then transfer to your iPod. Lots of tutorials on the net and iTunes has a good help section that will walk you through it.
As long as you bought the CD and it's your iPod, your good. Legally you can't use someone elses CD or iPod, you must have purchased the music yourself.
