I've been playing around with audacity just sort of teaching myself about how programs like that can work. I hear a lot of people griping about it, though. Is there a better program that is also free, or pretty cheap?

The gripes are pretty much their problem based on the limitations of their knowledge or lack of ability to play what is to be recorded. (ie, they have to have autotune)
