Karaoke products make use of MIDI files to play music. Music enthusiasts would then sing with the MIDI music to their heart's desire.

The thing is, MIDI files are small. You can load thousands of MIDI files in a single CD. No wonder karaoke products make wide use of them. But producing each MIDI file is a tedious task. Only techi musicians with superior listening skills can produce them.

Guitar Pro 5 instructions:

File->Export->MIDI

Won't sound as good as the file itself, which is tiny as can be at around 10-50KB, but will be a 100% MIDI compatible in every way.
