It was designed for a compression driver, and I think that's the best kind of tweeter to use for a matched-directivity two-way loudspeaker. It gives you everything you need in terms of suitability for horn loading, SPL and response. Everything sort of comes together, the crossover point requirements, directivity, SPL (allowing mass-rolloff compensation), etc.
If you want a simpler loudspeaker that uses a dome tweeter, for example, then I suggest maybe going with a two π loudspeaker instead.
