I have an old lap top that my father gave me. It doesn't have a hard drive at all in it. It only reads off of floppy disks. That's it no storage at all. Amazing the speed at which things progress.

My very first pc used a cassette tape drive as a storage device. It was powered by a 6502 microprocessor and had 8 Kb ram upgradeable to a massive 16 Kb *gasp.

The little 1802 computer was a homebrew that I assembled on a perf board with point-to-point wiring. Looks like spaghetti on the underside, just a bunch of red wires. I still have it, and the 6502 system too (Synertek Sym-I, much like the Kim-I, precursor to the Apple I and II), and both computers still work. Sometimes I get them out and turn them on, just for old times sake.

I wish I could have saved mine but I moved house too often and many things got lost or broken in transit. I can still remember the peep peep peep sound of the data being loaded into the pc from the cassette drive. That's a type of digital sound alright.
I had a really old Amstrad computer, all of my data was saved on to a cassette tape. I used quite a few tapes writing a story, wish I'd kept the tapes now.
