Which would be more suitable for surrounds in a HT where 3 Pi's are the front channels? Thanks in advance.

Either one is just fine. I'm running two π speakers as surrounds, but one π speakers will work just as well. It really is a coin flip decision, in my opinion. I chose the two π's simply because I had them.
