Hi all ,i was listening to some imf tls 80s that i found at a recycle depot. and fully enjoyed the deep bass and soundstage. These are not my usual listen i like full rangers like goodmans and tannoys . i was wondering as the front baffle is removable on the imfs could i fit a 12inch full ranger instead of the inefficient array of drivers that are in it? what would the effect on sound be would it be any good ??? look forward to your replys good or bad

I think if you do some analysis to find the right driver matched to the cabinet, your chances of success would be much greater.

Any suggestions wayne ?i was looking at the spectrum the drivers produce which is approx 30hz to 20 khz ,its obvious the tl enclosure does the business end of the deal, hence my thought of a hq full range driver in place of the 4 components and lack of complicated current drawing crossovers. many thanks for reply jon

My suggestion would be to model the cabinet with something like Martin King's spreadsheets or maybe Hornresp. That way you can get an idea what drivers would be suitable for the cabinet.

Back in the day I built more bad transmission lines than you could shake a high-end cable at. Then I discovered one of the secrets: start with a high Qts driver, like between .50 and .80. So if I was going to do a high efficiency transmission line system, I'd probably start with one of the PHY drivers or something similar.
