Hello,

I need to know if there is a sonic difference between two mounting configurations of three 8" mids on a baffle.

inside vs. outside: please see the two attached images.

index.php?t=getfile&id=95&private=0
index.php?t=getfile&id=96&private=0

the mids will cover 200Hz to 700Hz, 6db/oct. crossover slopes, mounted on medium size (18" wide x 42" tall) open baffle.

Thanks,
Herman.

If the drivers would be used at higher frequency, the mounting might matter. Both because of the distance to the listener making a slightly different flight time and because of the edge causing reflections and diffraction. But at the midrange frequencies you're talking about, wavelengths are between about two feet and six feet long, so the extra (less than an) inch of path length difference will hardly matter, and the thickness of the edge is acoustically so small it's transparent. In this case, you can probably make the choice of whichever is more aesthetically pleasant to you.

Thank you for clearing that up, Wayne.
