Shane,

No I haven't. Looks interesting, but by the time you bounce the low power built-in flash up and off the ceiling, you won't likely add much illumination to the scene, especially over any distance at all.

Stop by the Audio Note room and I'll lend you my SB600.

Dave

I don't know. In manual mode you can crank the built in up pretty nice. Not a substitute for an SB or anything, but it puts out quite a bit of light. I'm still learning to use the D40 indoors. I just don't take many photos inside at all.

I'm bringing the most affordable new system I have found whose sound doesn't offend. It includes the Dayton Audio BR-1 standmount speakers ($160), the Best Buy Insignia NS-R2000 stereo receiver ($113), and the Oppo DV-980H universal player ($169). Cables are generic.

No experienced listener is going to confuse this with a true high end system, and the purpose of this demo isn't to poke fun at expensive high end audio equipment. The purpose is to demonstrate to people who are listening to really awful sounding equipment (90+% of the adult US population) that you can build a system that sounds balanced and involving without breaking the bank. Hopefully many of the people who buy a system like the one I'm demonstrating will later go on to buy good entry level high end equipment.

I don't sell any of this stuff, but if asked I will build a pair of BR-1's for anybody who's uncomfortable doing it themselves. I will sell the completed speakers with some internal upgrading for $195, of if somebody is just uncomfortable with soldering the crossovers I'll do that for them for free (this is the way I suggest newbies do it because it still gives them the satisfaction of having built their own speakers).

FYI I will be bringing my small MLTL's with fully EnABLed FE167s, my large MLTL's loaded with Lowther DX3's and a pair of 207/FT17H BR's. See you there.

Okay, so who else is at Embassy Suites with their system 90% set up at 5:20 on Thursday? (Andy Bey's singing "Willow Weep for Me" while I assemble the speaker stands.)

Very Happy

I'm here, just got setup.

We got here around 5:00pm, loaded in and fiddled around, ate and started setting up. Just got done, playing some Yes, Tales from Topgraphic Oceans.

Hey, has any of you tried using the HDMI or S-Video inputs on your televisions? We can hook up composite (AUX is set by tuning to channel 36) but it isn't immediately obvious to me how to select HDMI, VGA or S-Video. Might be unable to do it without the factory remote - these hotels love to hook up those weird gizmos to tie you into their network.

Anyway, I don't care that much at this point, I'm setup and ready to wind down. See you all tomorrow!

I'm in 314, which I thought was an appropriate coincidence. Cool
