Jewel is my new favorite female vocalist. Sarah MacLachlin is great too, but Jewel sounds more natural. Both have the same great passion, but Jewel is doing it for me these days.

I was over at Mark Margiotta's house a few weeks ago and he played this album. I recognized the voice, but couldn't place it. He told me it was Jewel and I thought (and said) Ooooooh yeeeaaah. It was one of those "how did I forget" moments. This is really an excellent album. I've made a mental note to pick up all the other recordings of hers too.

Part of what caused me to forget was that her first album, Pieces of You came out at a time in my life when I was more likely to listen to more energetic music. I liked Sarah McLachlin and Jewel, but was more likely to listen to Tool, if listening to current music of the time. Someone said Jewel played "little girl with a guitar music" and that was kind of true. So in spite of the fact that she's one of the most talented and passionate vocalists I've ever heard, I moved on past that season and forgot.

Don't make the same mistake I did. Pick up a Jewel album or three. Get Spirit if you don't already have it. Listen to track 3, and then the rest of the album. Don't even try it with low power because you won't have enough knob.
