O'Kay; so no one likes Little Feat, is anyone familiar with Dave? I am listening to Blackjack Davey. It's growing on me.
One of the recommendations of Electratigs; the Shostokovich is really growing on me. The more I hear it the deeper it goes. Musical communication.

The Blasters was one of the best Rock n Roll bands of the '80s.

One of my favorite recordings of all time is a rarity by Phil
Alvin called Unsung Stories. On this 'concept record' Phil
Alvin does traditional and historic popular music such as
"Minnie The Moocher" , "The Old Man Of The Mountain", "Death In The Morning" and others with a select group of accompanists. The
accompanists include Sun Ra and the Arkestra and The Dirty Dozen Brass Band plus solo performances by Phil.

Trivia: Dave Alvin honored his brother Phil by putting him on the
cover of one of his own albums.

Long ago the vinyl recording was sent to the radio studio where
I did a community radio program. Any word on a cd copy, please
email me.

yeah; me too; I would like to hear that. The Blasters did one really good song,"Border Radio." Some decent stuff, I favor the solo albums because Dave can write well except when he goes over the top.
I am a big Sun Ra fan also.
"Rocket No.9".

I managed to snag a few of the Unsung Stories tracks from p2p.

Let me know in mail if you want any. "Death In The Morning" is
killer! I know nothing about it: if it's traditional, popular music or what. But it's one of the best solo/accapella songs I've ever heard.

I had encouraged the folk program on public radio to play it, but, alas
they said it was out of their format or something.

Say Lon; Gemm CD and music claims to have 3 copies of that album; Let me refresh; it's called "Unsung Heroes" correct?

I'm sorry but it seems they only have it on LP. Based on your rec I am placing the order. They have "County Fair" on CD. Both recieved excellent reviews on the Gemm site.

I'm just a bit wary of my advice coming back to haunt me.
But it really is that good. "Death In The Morning"
is one of those songs that should be in the repertoire
of every folk singer... the kind of folk singer that
seriously sings songs of the people. There are a few of
those around. Not the Joni Mitchell kind but the Phil Ochs
kind. It helps to have a really good brushes and snare
drummer too.

Nverworry; I am already familiar with this music and I know the style so all I needed was to be made aware of it's existance. Even if you did not like it I would still be curious. The reviewers on Gemm are pretty good and they loved both of them also. And with Sun Ra and the Arkestra how can you go wrong?
As for songs of the people I listen to Tom Russell all the time.
You know all the popular stuff is out there it's the unusual music that requires exposure. Thanks and I will let you know.
