I'm respectful of copyrights, but I hope the record companies can relax their royalties on digital broadcasters. We pay a higher royalty than traditional over-the-air stations because the record companies see radio stations as promoting their products. I don't see any difference in most of the digital stations except perhaps in the business model. Most traditional stations earn money by advertising whereas digital stations usually earn money by subscription but the airplay ultimately provides exposure for the artists being played, which in turn, generates potential sales of CDs. Looks to me like the royalty increase is a back-chamber "smokey room" deal that unfairly burdens web broadcasters. Glad to see the royalty increase postponed, even if only for just a few days.
