I just haven't been able to get my head around the idea that we're soon to be hit with another massive hurricane, maybe even bigger than the last...

You're safe. Anyway it is all over the news non-stop coverage.

Yes, that's true. It's everywhere on the news. I sometimes sort of overlook things like this, assuming/hoping/thinking conditions will change or whatever and nothing bad will happen. But it's looming nearer and nearer.

We have seen the best of our times/ the weather for the past hundred or two hundred years has been mild; food is plentifull; water is available; there is enough wealth so that a decent percentage of us can live without fear of starving or some other catastrophe.
But if natural history tells us one thing it is that nothing stays in stasis; everything is in flux. From 1950 until 2000 are the best 50 years we may ever see.

Definitely. Weather cycles are like sunspot cycles and I'd say we're in a peak right now.

How do you mean that? A peak of Hurricanes or some kind of major weather change? You know plenty say this is not a result of global warming and I have to laugh. Global warming is occurring even without greenhouse gases. The state of the atmosphere has been changing since the earth began and will continue to do so. This calm we are experiencing may be only a blip on the geological timeframe.
And to think we can exhaust endless amounts of heat and gas without any consequences is silly. It's only been 10k yrs since the last ice age and thats nothing really.

Pipelines and terminals on Gulf Coast shut down till next week - refineries will be offline for a week, assuming they don't get crushed - half the SPR is offline and couldn't send oil if they wanted to brcause nobody's there to receive it.

$3 a gallon for gas? That'll be a real bargain by Oct 1.

I'm afraid you are right and Prius's go for a couple hundred over list unless they call that price gouging. Looks like the storm is veering east.
