Canadian novelist, poet & singer/songwriter can celebrate his 70th birthday Tuesday. A new album is due to be released Oct. 25th. I saw a 2 hour program about Cohen on one of our national TV channels (Denmark) this evening - including a Canadian documentary from '65, where Cohen (among other things) read his poetry and proved that he could probably have made a nice career as a stand-up comedian. There was also parts of a Danish talkshow from '92 included. Great stuff.

I'm very happy that he's still going strong and is sending out a new album :-)

That album with "Suzanne", was standard makeout fare back when. With a little help from mother nature.

"Suzanne" was on his first album, from '69 I think - it was simply called "The Songs Of Leonard Cohen". It also contained another Cohen classic, "Hallelujah".

If someone want's to have a good collection of Cohen songs, without buying the whole back catalogue, the double compilation CD "The Essential Leonard Cohen" really have a lot of the good stuff, almost 2½ hours of music (including the two songs mentioned above, of course). The older tracks have been cleaned up, too (without spoiling them!), and there's music right up to his latest album, "Ten New Songs". One of the best compilation CD's I know of.
