I started collecting all the pieces to build a pair of 4 Pi's a while back. Was just getting ready to start assembling the crossovers and have noticed that the kits are no longer using the JBL 2426h compression driver and supposedly they have a different crossover design. Should I consider selling the JBL's and get some DE250's and build the new crossover design? Do they work better in this speaker or are they just more cost effective?

Thanks,
Jeff

The JBL 2426 is a pretty good driver but the DE250 has more extension. Both are very smooth and nice sounding drivers.

Can either driver be used with the same crossover or are the crossovers different? Also, should I just build the old crossover design or is it worth it to upgrade to the new design?

Thanks,
Jeff

The new crossover is better than the old one, so definitely build the new one. We have unstuffed PCBs as well as finished crossovers in the shopping cart. User R1/R2 values same as the DE250.

How does the 4 Pi sound with the 2225H instead? Would the crossover be the same? Also, can I get the new 4 Pi Pro plans?

Thanks!
Jeff

I used to use the 2205 a lot and loved it. Also used the 2225, both of which are similar to the 2226. I'd consider them to each be in the same family of drivers, and in my speakers you can use them interchangeably for the most part. No cabinet or crossover changes are necessary provided you stay with 8Ω parts, i.e. JBL 2205H, 2225H or 2226H.
