I went back to the Dagogo site because I couldn't recall any comments I made on that but I did write about it here, I believe. Perhaps it was in an amplifier review? My recollection is that the Vifa at 13,000 just gets lost and doesn't contribute much. I also firmly believe that neither the Altec 806 or 902, either with 811s or the Woodhorns, sounds as good as the B&C DE-250. Both Altecs are shouty in the upper mids, especially with the 811. The B&C is far smoother and cruises on past them into a higher, more real treble, particularly with the H-290( damped, of course).
Speaking with Ron the Spkrman, we agree that the 4 cu ft cabinet has more bass and the 2 1/2 cu ft Pi cabinet less, quantitatively. The quality of the bass from the smaller cabinet, however, is greater. Just tonight I was listening to All The Roadrunning and had my attention caught by some very low electric bass notes I hadn't noticed before.
Building the 4 Pis as I have done is a sort of capitulation to our hobbys attention to striving for that perfect speaker but Wayne's come as close as can be to perfection for me. I'm tired of the experimentation, elation and then disappointment which inevitably follows the building of the latest flavor. With the 4 Pis done, I'm listening to more music than in quite awhile. Now, the only jumping out of my chair I do is to adjust the volume; not the phase, not the horn angle or any of the other gymnastics we all do.
