I posted a question about movies made in the southern hemisphere to Mike and Adrian, Round Table regulars from down under. I probably should have posted it here, but I wasn't sure they checked this forum, and knew they posted in General. Anyway, the thread includes some good references, so here's a link:

Hello Wayne:

Here's one for you that I really liked, and it's a true story too. Called, "Rabbit Proof Fence". The synopsis for which I've included from the IMDb site. "This is the true story of Molly Craig, a young black Australian girl who leads her younger sister and cousin in an escape from an official government camp, set up as part of an official government policy to train them as domestic workers and integrate them into white society. With grit and determination Molly guides the girls on an epic journey, one step ahead of the authorities, over 1,500 miles of Australia's outback in search of the rabbit-proof fence that bisects the continent and will lead them home. These three girls are part of what is referred to today as the 'Stolen Generations.'" This movie will make you a little misty eyed at it's ending when you see footage and commentary of the remaining living women who more than once walked those miles just to get home. Adios!

Dean Kukral mentioned Rabbit-Proof Fence too, and it looks interesting. I checked out some of the review sites and found that Peter Gabriel did the soundtrack. That's cool too; Gabriel did a song about Steven Biko about 20 years ago, and it is clear that he is pasionate about matters such as these. I'll definitely get a copy of this movie.
