I have a pair of these still in their box (currently my coffee table) which eventually I plan to use in 3.5 cu ft sealed boxes with 250 watt plate amps.

Now I'm wondering about open baffles. Qts and Fs should be about right, yes?

How do you figure size of front baffles and wings?

What happens if they're placed at the sides of the room with the wings near or up against the wall?

Or just stick with sealed boxes?

I'd put them in 10ft3 cabinets tuned to 18Hz.

Yeah, that's too big. Hmm. I just don't think they'll work well on an open baffle. You could sure try it, but I don't think it's gonna make soup.

Is an in-wall infinite baffle an option? If you're renting, probably not. And I'm not sure it makes good sense for an experiment either. But I do think they would work well in an infinite baffle, essentially a huge box. Trouble with that is two-fold, one is you must cut a hole in a wall or ceiling and the other is you really need to model the room or do some measurements to know where to place them. It would suck to cut holes first and then find out where you placed 'em caused huge room modes.

Might be best to sell 'em and get subwoofers that work well in smaller boxes. If you could get a pair of small subs, you could place them strategically to blend with the bass of the four π's to smooth room modes. That's the ticket, 'cause it gives you a deep bass foundation and smooths room modes at the same time.

DCS-380 in 4 cu ft sealed box,. i.e., the BatSpeaker boxes with the ports sealed. Not too bad?

Looks perfect, Bill. Nice curve for indoor subs.

Bill,
How about a small (20 to 26") OB and then HIGH pass them at 30hz with your plate amps. I've done that with the 15" IB speakers and it works wonderfully. Think about what that implies before you shoot holes!
