Hi ... Are there any true 12" high efficiency midrange speakers for use in a waveguide? Bass will be one of the 7PI's.

JBL 2012 and 2020, Eminence Delta 10A and Delta 12A [message #51538 is a reply to message #51537] Sat, 10 November 2007 09:35 Go to previous messageGo to next message

Check out the JBL 2012 (10") and JBL 2020 (12"). Also check out the Eminence Delta 10A (10") and Delta 12A (12").

Each of these are excellent drivers that work very well in a midhorn.

Thanks, Wayne ... graph looks terrible on both Eminences from 1500hz up.
Am I missing something? You have heard, I have never. Horns may help, but WG's probably not.

What you're seeing are breakup modes. They make the curve rise like that, but they actually measure pretty consistently. It's not a choppy curve, it's a steady rise. That helps midhorns with these drivers have useable response above 1kHz. Without that response curve shape, you wouldn't have much output up high.

Wayne ... Quick thanks and follow up.
How high can I take each of the four and still maintain low distortion?
They will be used in WG's so top end won't be as restricted compared to horns.

You'll find that the horn will naturally limit upper response for you, unless you add a phase plug. The acoustic low-pass filter formed by the horn makes a nice natural limiter of high frequency breakup.
