Making a set of 2Pi Monitors. Is it recommended to surface mount the drivers or recess them into the cabinet?

Do whichever you like. Surface mounting is easier but routing a groove to recess the drivers flush with the baffle looks nicer. The edge formed by surface mounting is too thin to cause diffraction in the audio band, so the decision is purely aesthetics.
