Did anyone see the Myth Busters rerun where they tested the myth of
destroying a car with its audio system? This was hillarious! They
made up a subwoofer from 1/4" aluminum sheet stock cut into trapazoids
and made up sort-of a cone, used a truck inner tube for the surround,
and drove it off a crank shaft built onto the drive shaft of a Mercedes.
The throw was about 5". They had the guy from the dB Drags measure this
thing, and before it self destructed got ~150dB at 16Hz. It only
lasted a few seconds.

Those guys are hilarious! Sometimes they do really cool stuff. But I guess sometimes they miss the boat too. 150dB is loud, but a small array of prosound horns can do this in free space. Inside the confined space of a car, competition systems are doing 100x this loud, in the 170dB range.
