Hi ... What are the negative points for using a bigger driver on a horn that was originally designed for 8" driver? Horn is from JBL SR4735X. http://www.jblproservice.com/pdf/SR-X%20Series/SR4735X.pdf
Throat is 19 sq. in. Normal Sd/St was 2.43. I would like to use a 10" driver, but Sd/St would be 3.5. BTW will use open chambered. Thanks, Zene

Model it using Hornresp. You can probably find a driver that will work for you. Just by looking at it, I think a JBL 2012 or Eminence Delta 10 would probably sound good on that horn. Might be worth a try.

Saved my bacon again. Speaker I was thinking about had xMax of 1mm. Now I realize that could be awful without back chamber. Will get very friendly with HornRes. Footnote ... My reconer says the Eminence vc lead outs are breaking too often. He's quit recommending them for band use. May or may not be a concern for home. Thanks, Zene

Eminence's pressed-frame drivers have spade lugs on cardboard mounting tabs. That's pretty common for inexpensive speakers, and I agree, you don't want to put any pressure on them. I give them some support underneath with my finger when pressing on the connector 'cause they'll break if unsupported.

Eminence's cast-frame drivers use much more durable connectors.

Wayne ... It's not the terminals it's the leads that connect direcly to the vc. Explaination was they don't have strain relief so they vibrate until they break. Eminence is aware of problem so is not minor. Can send you one if it's of any importance. Might not be if you've had no problems. Zene

I'm not aware of that problem and I've done some pretty intense tests of Eminence drivers. Like most other speakers, the leads from terminals to cone are looped to allow for excursion. What driver have you encountered this kind of failure from?

Wayne ... I will get a proper report from my reconer so I don't try to describe something I'm not qualified to comment (on). Zene

Jerry McNutt at Eminence says there have been no unusual problems related to connectors or leads breaking in any of their drivers. This just hasn't been a problem for them.

I've had my share of problems with Eminence drivers over the years, but connection wires haven't been an issue. It's more likely that something else is going on.
