Wayne,

Looking for comments on this configuration:

2226J in 3.5 cubic ft box tuned with (2) ports 4" ID and 6.5" long.

Results from WT2 come up with this:

Fsb = 45.7hz
alpha = .955
Ha = .78
Fm = 35.67hz

flo = 23.5hz (67 ohm)
fhi = 69.3hz (80 ohm)

My listening detects a large hump around 60hz.

Could you recommend a port tuning change (shorter ports I'm thinking) to get back to flatter response.

JBL recommends (2) 4" ID ports @ 4" long for a 4 cubic ft box. Would you agree that shortening the ports from 6.5" to 4" would be close to optimum?

Cabinets arrived to me as described, so I knew a port change would be necessary.

Thanks, Ron

I think that alignment would work great outdoors or in a very large room, but indoors it might sound peaky especially in a smaller room. I like a slightly overdamped alignment for this driver, so I tune the cabinet about 10Hz lower.

Wayne,

I take your answer as meaning to extend the ports a few inches longer, say 8" long each vs 6.5" that are in there already.

Thanks, Ron

Yes, making the ports longer would certainly shift the Helmholtz frequency down. I'd go down about 10Hz, so I'm thinking you may have to go longer or even plug a port.

Used foam pieces that I keep around. That way I can just remove it with no ill effects.

Sounds like what I will use for awhile.

Thanks Wayne!

Ron
