They're really doing great work with these. CNC cut pieces, dado construction, all precision cut and fit. They're impressive and I thought you might want to see a few photos from an inside view.

The 12π prototype was cut by hand and assembled using glue and wood screws. You can see a write-up of the prototype assembly process in the post called "12π basshorn - Coming together". Information about the design is available in the post called "12π basshorn subwoofer". The ones we're making in the shop are from CAD drawings and cut on a CNC, so fitment is perfect. Makes alignment of the pieces much easier too. http://www.audioroundtable.com/emoticons/smiley.gif

Sounds like it will be a great subhorn!

Great pics!

Thanks, Ron

They're awesome. Did you see the results of testing at the Prosound Shootout last October? Highest SPL, lowest distortion. The push-pull driver arrangement works very well for reducing distortion at very low frequencies. The heat exchanger does an excellent job of removing heat from the motors. Power handling is increased over 225% and compression is reduced. Driver characteristics don't change as power is increased 'cause the voice coil doesn't get as hot. You can easily see it in the response curve - the 12π response curve looks the same at extreme power levels as it does at low and moderate levels. Other speakers (even horns) have a pronounced peak that develops at low frequencies when power goes up, an obvious sign of voice coil heating changing electrical Q of the motor. So there are a lot of pretty serious advantages offered by the 12π basshorn subwoofer. And build quality is great too. I'm really proud of it.

Those are really cool!!! The wife wants a nice big flat panel TV. Do you think one of these would work for a stand?
Is there room to fit a center channel set in there too?

Chris

Actually, that isn't a half bad idea. How well does it work on its side? It might make a great coffee table.

It works just fine on its side. When multiples are stacked, that's how most people set them up.

Cool. I'm always keeping the WAF in mind.

"Those aren't speakers in the corners. They're plant/vase/sculpture stands."

"That isn't a subwoofer in the middle of the room. It's a coffee table."

See, these 'mainstream' high end speaker manufacturers just don't get it. The could all increase their sales by hiding their products in plain site.

It seems you've got it down. I'm having trouble finding someone with a CNC macine who is willing to cut the piecs for me. Would you guys be interested? I need them soon for a show in August.
Lemme know.
