In the 22uF position on the 4Pi crossover the 10uF motor runs with an 8.2 Solen and a 3.3 Clarity yielded a rose-colored mid range. Nicer treble and imaging, tho' Switched to 16uF and 6uF Solens by-passed with a .33uF Auricap. Roses went away but the harsh treble is back.
Question: what would the 10uF oil caps at the 8uF position do to the crossover?. Tempted by North Creeks and Mundorfs, too.
I just ordered some North Creek 10's to play with- I got 6 of them and plan to try them in the 10 & doubled in the 20 slot. I'll give them awhile to break in and then try the next step.... They're on sale for $6.50 so it's a good deal.

You can substitute a 10uF capacitor for C2. I'd prefer 8uF, but 10uF isn't too far off. It will shift the shape and position of the low frequency corner, but only very slightly.

Yeah, there's a shelf there somewhere. Unpleasant tinny-ness combined with that same soupy/syrupy mid-range the oil cap had as a part of the 22uF. Gonna put back the 8 but a Solen instead of the S-Y-Z.

Got the North Creek Zens this afternoon- very quick service- and immediately installed a 10uF Zen in place of the mylar 10uF stock. I had forgot that one was a basic mylar. I've already got the fix I was looking for- everything else will be gravy from here on out..... Sounds very good, even only a few discs break-in time. Much more open mids, cleaner, sound, and the "congestion" that I heard on some classical music is gone. I'll give this some time, and move on to the others and experiment a little with them too.
I don't know what best "C/V ratio" stand's for. I think at least they don't explode. Also, bet that they may be expensive (from catalogue) or difficult to find for doubles of used motor runs. Some tolerances of 10% might be to much, unless you go 5% or less. I agree with you that the final test is the one you do, a work of art if it sounds good. Another link:

Exactly my experience, IMO - if you want that "sweet & rosy" side of the neutral sound (ha), then Mundorf Supreme is the answer...but we are then in $100 territory for 22µF cap...
