Cool!

We used to use the Peavey Black Widow 1202-4 and the 1801-8's in our setup when we were playing gig's. They are both good sounding speakers, but the FS is better on the Usher. The 1202-4's are made to be used in horns.

Yes!
I was looking at these too. Looks like they would make a solid mid sized two-way without the need for a sub(4.5 cubic feet). Since you're not afraid of big boxes check the Usher 15PA. Simulate it in 6.8 cubic feet @ 32Hz and hang on to your grin muscles.

If you get one of 'em, let us know how it sounds.

It appears to my untrained eye that the HM has less trouble reaching for 1500 Hz. If so, maybe giving up a little low end grunt and getting a smaller box would be worth it.

I hope I am looking at the same graphs (296-630.pdf & 296-632.pdf respectively). They looked like the same driver to me at first. This is bugging me now. Anyway, I must confess that I wasn't paying attention above 1K (BIG HF horn & deeper driver coming soon). They both looked great to me.

As for the bass; on further inspection the 15PA is only +2 or 3dB from 30 to 40, which is not exactly huge. They can both be tuned to play solid to 30-something in most domestic sized rooms, & that is pretty cool. It seems we both like the other driver for the same reason, box size. I like the sound of a big cabinet. I do not know why, but box size seems to be a big deal in my room. That and a bit more in the mid thirties will put me over the edge when I take my musical taste into account.

W/O being able to overlay the 2 graphs it's really hard to tell the difference.
I'm also looking at the B&C woofers Earl Geddes uses. Look how close the specs track the 2226.
There's so much more available to us today than just JBL and Eminence. Cool!

If you like that type of driver, then you should look into this
one. The new person who makes them I believe can make those for
a lower price than the usher if you buy a pair ... and I'd bet my
paycheck the Usher would get beat pretty bad by it.
