I saw some older posts regarding the Stage Four Pi 18. Seems like a 4 PI 18 could work with the Emminence Magnum, Omega or Sigma 18" drivers? I saw a reference to the Omega used in the Stage 4 Pi 18"; similar volume to the Theater 4's. I did not see in the forums where it was either sold or discontinued. Did you sell it at one time? Are there any problems with it? Do you still have the plans for it?

I would like to get SET style efficient bass slam in an under 10 ft3 two-way speaker without corner loading, horns, bi-amping, active crossovers, or powered subs. I am willing to go to 500hz crossover to get there. I have not figured out the Pi align software yet, but some of the other box calculators I tried showed some reasonable sizes with the Emminence 18" drivers. Possible, good idea, bad idea? I am assuming a Stage four Pi 18 would have considerable bass slam?

Thanks

I have the Stage 4's with the 15" drivers, and it's hard to imagine anyone needing more bass in a home situation, unless you're really into pipe organs or something, and it's totally independent of room damping. My teenagers all agree- and this is with 2A3's. If I were you I'd get them, as the 18" woofer in a 2-way is not going to give you as good mids, which is important with a 300B. Then, if they don't give you enough bass, ask Wayne for some plans to build a subwoofer out of the 18s or another 15 (or pair of 15s!!) and augment the bottom. Lots of other options, though....

The four π-18 is really a bass bin. They work great as subs, or as the bass section of a speaker with the π midhorn and tweeter. They can be used in a smaller setup, something with a large format compression driver. But I've been using them primarily as bass bins or subs.

Hello Wayne

How do you think the Stage or Premium 4 Pi 18" would do with Altec drivers and 511b horns? I am set on the Stage or Premium 4 Pi 15" or 18" to use with Altec horns and drivers. Just need to pick between 15 or 18. The smaller size of the 15" box might be better but I can make room if the 18" version has advantages.

Thanks

One of the things I like to do with the larger two-way speakers is match directivity at the crossover point. That also puts the crossover point above the vocal range, which I think helps the midrange sound more pure.

Could that be read to mean you prefer the 15" over the 18" two-way Pi speakers because of the crossover location?

By the way, I lost all of my Pi documents again in my fire. Could I have the Pi crossover documents again and the Stage four and Stage Four Premium Plans. Also would you price the Stage 4 regular and premium boxes without a horn cutout and the Omega and Kilomax 15" woofers to compare? Do you have PC boards for your crossovers? I would like to use them for the inductors and resistors. I will probably build your crossovers with paper and oil motor-run caps.

Thanks

Not only the crossover point but also the compression driver required to span the range. I like the TAD 4001, but others I've tried were less than stellar.

Tell me your E-Mail address and I'll resend the plans for the four π speakers.

How do you think the Altec 802 drivers would do with an 18" driver? Are the Premium and Stage Pi four plans the same? Also, along with 15" Four Pi Stage and Premium plans may I have a look at the Pi 4 18" plans?

Thanks Again,
