I haven't even started construction and I'm already thinking about upgrades...

Are the 2226's a direct drop in replacement for the Omega 15's (aside from the crossover)? If not, what would be the logical upgrade?

Yes, The JBL 2226 and the Eminence Omega 15 are compatible with each other. As you say, the crossover is a little different but the cabinet is the same.
