Sometimes ya just have to switch from the SET's and SACD's and oh-so-excruciatingly-set-up Fono and let the A.V receiver kick some Pink Floyd Ass!

If you really want to kick ass, fold up the av receiver and get yourself a 60-75 watt tube amp. despite the popularity of low power tube amps with horns, when I put my big tube amp back in the chain, all music starts to kick ass. Just my personal opinion, but I have always found high efficency speakers are best with higher power. A lot of this may depend on the quality of those first few watts. despite the delicacy of low power amps, my foot always starts tapping with the high power tube amp. Oddly, with the high power set up, it seems to need higher volumes to get sounding good, while my lower power ones do it at lower levels just fine. On the other hand, maybe I'm just going deaf! I bring out my McIntosh MC-240 amp when I want to kick it out on 97db speakers. Solid state amps are okay but I prefer the less "in your face" sound of the more powerful tubes amps for "concert level" when not running my 45 SET's!

Yes, thats the effect, my horns dont really get that magic sound untill the volume is a little high. Again, maybe I'm just going deaf,
but it sure seems that at low level they are quite "polite", but no decay effects and ambience untill the volume knob is going up.Russellc
