Hi Wayne,

Quick question about the 3 pi Pro: does it utilize a crossover? I believe that the 2 pi Studios still go with the natural driver rolloff and since both the Pro 3 and Studio 2 use the same tweeter, I didn't know if that was the case for the former as well. I was thinking that I might try the Studio 2s and since they have the same dimensions as the Pro 3s, it would be easy to upgrade the LF later on. Just didn't know if a crossover would also be needed. Thanks.

Rich

The Professional Series three π uses a first-order crossover. So does the Studio Series one π, two π and two π tower speakers now that the tweeter is a DX25 instead of a KSN1038. So your 2π → 3π upgrade idea would be very easy to do. Make the woofer hole bigger, pull the coil, swap the driver and one capacitor and you're through.

Does the Pi 3 Pro concept work with the KSN 1038? Have a couple in Pi Ones.... Is the Vifa the "preferred" tweeter for this app? Is the cross-over just a serial cap working against R,L in speaker?

I tried that once and didn't like it. The KSN1038 just doesn't reach low enough to match the 2206, and it doesn't sound natural. If you find an old 2115 though, now that's a pretty good combo.
