On the eminence website, they say the recommended enclosure volume for the alpha 8 is 1.1 to 1.8 cf. Your design is 1 cf for the external dimension of the cabinet, so maybe its .8 or.9 cf for the internal volume.

Why go with a smaller box than recommended?

and

How does the alpha 8 sound in a 1.8 cf cabinet?

The Alpha 8 works best in 0.5ft3 to 2.0ft3 tuned to 55Hz. It really is a midrange driver and can be used with a very small rear chamber, but you can coax them to produce bass with a good response curve in larger cabinets up to two cubic feet.

Wayne, have you ever considered a 1 Pi Tower of 2 cubic feet?

A person could surely make a nice little one π tower. An Alpha 8 in a 2.0ft3 cabinet tuned to 55Hz makes a nice flat response curve with f3 of 50Hz, so that's pretty cool. But it becomes very sensitive to parameter shifts at that size. I think I might make the box just slightly smaller or tune slightly lower so that any shift towards underdamping doesn't result in a large peak. Maybe 1.8ft3 tuned to 55Hz or 2.0ft3 tuned to 55Hz, someting like that.

Hello Wayne,

i can confirm. I use the alpha 8 in an enclosure with 41 liters (i´m from germany, we don´t use ft, but it is about 1.35 cu ft.)

But i tuned it to 42 Hz. (2ports 10cm/9cm dia/lenght) It sounds great with my fostex fe 103 for the mid-/high-range.

Try it!!

Regards

Andreas
