Do a little math for cubic volume and angle the sides back at maybe 22 1/2 degrees then cut off the last few inches parallel with the front. Fits nice in a corner but doesn't look stupid out in the room. Gte a little more bass from the Alpha which has an Fs about 50 and don't overpower the room.
Just my opinion, of course.

I think it's a pretty cool idea, and an attractive shape. The eight π's are shaped that way, but are shorter and wider than tower two's. Either model will reach 35Hz f3.

question about size.... [message #45957 is a reply to message #45944] Mon, 06 December 2004 18:34 Go to previous messageGo to next message

I've been looking at 4pi, but having trouble deciding which one...a common problem! I now notice that the theatres are larger than the rest, and go alittle lower. Can the drivers from the more expensive versions be put in the larger box to any benefit?
Thanks!
Bernie

The box is tailored to the driver, so the Theater four π cabinet is sized and tuned specifically for the Delta 15.

It's a little too big for the Omega 15 or the JBL 2226 so you lose a little bass. Bass goes deeper in an oversized box, but at a reduced level. Sometimes it becomes underdamped and gets peaky, but not in this case. This situation is more like an EBS alignment.

Would the 8 pi be a good option then. Is it more set friendly than the pro of stage series?

The eight π speaker is great for SET amps. Generally, I'd consider it a better choice for low power SET amps than Stage or Professional Series Speakers.

Stage and Pro Series speakers are designed for use with amps having a little more power than most SET amps. There are some exceptions; I'm running my Stage seven π's on a 2A3 SET and it sounds fabulous. But the eight π speaker is designed to be used with low power amps, from 1 to 100 watts.

I believe I could shoehorn the 8's into my room. After looking at them a bit closer what are they. Are they a combination cornerhorn and bass reflex? Difficult to tell from the pictures just how they work.

They're a speaker that uses a midrange horn on the midwoofer and a tweeter horn for the top. Bass is done by bass-reflex tuning. Thay're sort of like a mini-VOTT.
