I'm looking for a good woofer that can produce fast, tight, tuneful bass in a car from 100hz down (mono sub). It'll be driven with a bridged Butler Blue Tube Driver 275 which will produce 250w into 4ohms, (not sure about 8.)

The winning driver must be able to live happily in

At 3ft3, I'd go with a JBL 2226 or Eminence Magnum 15. The Delta (and Deltalite) 10's are better suited as midrange drivers. It will get you under 100Hz, so it isn't a bad choice. But I'd go with something else. You might even consider the Alpha 10, which will really surprise you for the money. Put an Alpha 10 in the cabinet you're talking about and I think you'll be amazed.

I agree with Wayne on the Delta lite 10 for mids

I'm use some Deltalite 12" in some cabinets for CES right now and they have very nice bass.

Sure will !

Did you see the earlier post where I threatened to put a TAD beast in the back, facing up?
Cooler heads (Wayne's) prevailed, as he predicted, quite rightly, that I'd scare myself into car wreck!

Bad, bad idea.

Dave, here's a thought: would you like to try an AutoTuba in your car? Bill Fitzmaurice sells the design and I built a pair but can't use them. They aren't enough for PA but one would pressurize a car pretty good. They're 14" x 14" x 30", have an 8" 4ohm driver, unfinished 1/2" Baltic, and I drive to Windsor every day.
Since you gave back the 2 Pis I'd trust you with one of these

And whatever happened to that JBL-fueled 3-way monster? Looked like it just needed some crossover tweaks way back when...

I know you said

Hi John,

I considered one of those, but I think I'd blow myself out of the car! I'm going to use a Butler 275 to drive whatever I end up with, although now I'm tempted to drive my back door speakers full range with them and go with a simple powered sub (or not).

In short, I don't know what I want to do here!

Thanks for the offer; I'll keep it in mind.

The 3way monster are languishing. I'm too busy to mess with them, I'm afraid. Anyone interested in the cabinets and drivers can get 'em cheap at this point.

Yes, they certainly did.

Drop me a line off-line or give me a jingle sometime to discuss . . .
