I am making a variant of the Studio 2 only using the PSD2002 for HF. Could someone please give me the port dimensions for the standard (non-tower)version of the Studio 2?

Much Abliged,
crazychile

The port for the Studio Series two π speaker is 2" diameter x 1.875" long.

Have you seen the eight π loudspeaker? If you're planning to use an Alpha 10 and a PSD2002 you might be interested, because it also uses those components.

Chile,

If all you're doing is replacing the HF driver, it should not change port dimension at all. Cabinet and port dimensions are only relevant for bass alignment. (Although, if you're mounting the HF horn into the cabinet, you might need to increase cabinet dimension slightly to account for the volume displaced by the horn.)

Going with the 8-PI as Wayne suggested is a good option. However, if you're sticking with the standard "bookshelf" format, you will need to introduce a crossover between the Alpha10 and PSD. The crossover designed for the Theater-3 would work well in this case, but verify with Wayne.

Yeah, Thats nice but I am confined to a bookshelf speaker for this application.

GarMan- I e-mailed you about this a couple of days ago but no reply. Did you get it? I had some questions about the xover.

I am aware that the HF wont affect the port. What I am asking is what the port dimensions for the Studio 2 are? Anyone? Anyone?

thx,
crazychile

Sorry, Chil. Didn't receive any email. But I've been using my address for work purpose last week so it might have over flowed. If you ask Wayne for plan for the 2-PI, it'll contain the port info you need. Try me again at gclow(at)ca.inter.net

Gar's right about the port and about the crossover. The port is 2" diameter x 1.875" long and you can use the crossover like is used in a Thermionic three π or four π speaker. It has the right tweeter cable assembly for the PSD2002 and the right Zobel for use with a direct-radiating Alpha 10.

The total length of the port should be 1.875" from edge to edge. If your baffle is 1.5", then I'd probably glue another 0.375" thick panel in the area that the port will be and drill a 2" hole through it. Maybe use a 2.5" x 2.5" square that's 0.375" thick or something like that. The hole drilled through the baffle and the extra piece will give you an overall port length of 1.875".
