I have my eye on the studio 2 kit but wonder if a Selenium DH200HM tweeter and a simple xover (maybe just a cap) would mess-up the whole "Pi alignment" design.

I use an Audax TW025A0 or TW025A12. I like and use the A12 best. Better voiced for Jazz, Classical and home theater. The A0 is less expensive and better voiced for Rock.

The Pioneer AHE60-51F has worked well for me too and a great deal at 9.00.

You can use a simple crossover to protect the tweeter and still allow the woofer to roll off with the coil. I'm using a little steeper crossover than that right now that I'm very happy with.

If I'm not mistaken, I think the Pi alignment is pertinent to the woofer and tuning of the cabinet for the woofer.

Bill,

what do you do with it- just put it in with a cap to make a high pass filter? What do you use? May check it out sometime.

Thanks,

Matts

This is the solution I like to use. If you wanted to use a simple cap I would try a 5uF or a 6uF, and still use the small coil with the woofer.

There's really lots and lots of different arrangements you could come up with.

nice drawing! Have you tried this with low-powered SET's? I assume it retains the original efficiency if you have values listed for further attenuation of the tweeter....

I see you reversed polarity on the tweeter. I know that 2-2 and 1-3 crossovers are usually supposed to be done this way, but do you really notice a difference?

you will notice a difference. The drivers wil be out of phase and the imaging will suffer. Sounds that should be coming from the center will be less defined

Thanks, I have not tried this with a SET. Maybe I can hook up my 300B to them someday. If I was going to guess. They should be fine. The original efficiency is maintained and the attenuation is just a preferance. The tube amps usually have problems with woofer impeadance and that should not be a problem in this case. The Box size, tuning and woofer has all been worked out by Wayne and I wouldn't deviate from that. No reason this couldnt work with the 2 Pi tower, it's a larger box with deeper response. For a size inbetween you would have to consult with Wayne.

...doesn't fail me, Wayne recommends a tuning frequency of 40Hz for all sizes of boxes between 1½ and 5 cu.ft. with the Alpha 10.
