Yes, the KSN 1038, 1041 and 1056 are all the same except for cosmetic differences.

There are no suitable drop-in replacements. However, you may still be able to purchase KSN 1038's from Universal Electronics at (800) 533-3350. Ask for Bob Heintz.

CTS is looking for buyers for the piezoelectric tweeter business line. My guess is that they will probably be successful in this, because it is a well-established business with lots of ready and willing buyers. But who knows what is in store during the transition period and, if they are sold to another manufacturer, it remains to be seen if they maintain the same quality control and what not.

Personally, I'd like to see another manufacturer pick it up, so the tweeter line goes back in production. The one complaint I had with CTS was that they pretty much just threw the tweeters in a bin where the finish could be scratched before you ever received them. It would have been nice for them to add fifty cents and individually surround them in a protective package or put them in an egg crate type of device for shipping.

As for the current situation, I've got a bunch of KSN 1038's in stock and I'm looking for other options before they run out. If CTS sells to a reputable manufacturer before I run out of inventory, I'll keep using them if the price remains competitive. If not, I'll choose another part. Lots of good ones out there, but for the power handling and response of the piezo's, the price will have to jump.

Build two π towers. I think you'll like them best. If you don't have the room, go with Studio twos. The ones are a little bit more flat, but they don't have the bass. None of 'em will hit 20Hz or anything like that, but you'll be really surprised with the towers. They'll get you strong down to 30Hz.

Thanks Wayne .. Universal has 25 of the 1038s left at a really low price. You should call them up and buy the rest so your Pis can last longer.

The guy told me he has a driver thats curve lays right over the 1038s and its cheaper..he seemed to know his stuff quite well and said he has tested lots and lots of these.
He is sending me the 1038s , a curve sheet and a sample driver.

Unless I'm missing something CTS has completely dropped piezo speakers production. I checked their web site and couldn't find a
reference to any models. Wish I wouls have saved the old tutorial.

That's right, CTS has stopped production. But they are looking for buyers and there is a good possibility someone else will pick up the line. CTS still has their piezoelectric tweeter application notes online.

Wayne

what are the differences between the KSN1038 and the Eminence APT80 ?

From the specs... it looks not to too much.

The APT80 is fine where performance is concerned and its price is nice too. It is definitely an option, but to be honest, I don't find myself drawn to that tweeter. I think I like other options better, but maybe that's just me. Pity, because the price is right.

It's looking more and more like the KSN1038 will be second-sourced. CTS intends to sell the tooling to another company. So I think probably the tweeter will still be available after a brief transition period when supplies will dry up temporarily. We'll see.
