Some of you may have heard that the KSN1038 tweeter has been discontinued. We still have stock for one π, two π and two π tower speaker kits, but we are no longer selling the KSN1038 individually. We will sell the existing kits until they are gone. I plan to find a replacement part and to continue production of one π, two π and two π tower speakers and kits. The prices will undoubtedly increase to reflect the inclusion of a different tweeter. The price increase may be as much as double. I'm considering several options right now. Two that seem particularly attractive are the Vifa DX25 and the Eminence APT80. Each has its particular benefits, and it's a pretty tough decision. I also haven't ruled out other options. Honestly, I wish CTS hadn't discontinued the existing tweeter because it has been an inexpensive, attractive, reliable and stable part. But we'll make sure that the added cost of the tweeters make the new kits worth their price.

Hi Wayne, Maybe we didn't buy enough of them to keep production going. Bummer. Before you decide on a permanent replacement, what would you think about prototyping the cross-overs and having as many 2 Pi owners as possible do the conversion, listen, then vote. This would be at their own expense. I've been very curious about the APT's for a while. Any idea if there are differences between the different horns on the different models? Chris

Maybe CTS has another piezo which would work? I remember reading through older posts awhile ago that there were another couple of CTS models that you liked. The APT80 needs a horn flare I'm pretty sure, more $$$ :-( Sorry to hear it Wayne!

Actually the APT80 is a just an APT50 with an 80 degree conical horn built onto it. Its only a few bucks more. The APT-150 and APT-200 are also the APT50 with different horns. Personally I hope this is the route Wayne takes because so far some of my most impressive projects were based with Eminence made drivers. Adire Tempests and Shivas, Adire AV8 midwoofer and now my Stage 4 Pis.
I dont want to see Wayne go with a standard dome tweeter though because everybody else and there brother is already using these in the DIY community.

I personally like the results a lot that I've got from the APT80. In terms of cost for the drivers alone, it not that much more. However, add the cost of a high quality crossover to that and like Wayne said, you're doubling the cost of the existing PI 1 and 2 kits. Gar.
