Hope I don't start a war for posting an AA link but I think its worth looking at.

Basically about pro drivers not becoming "alive" until louder levels. The thread is mostly about JBL drivers, newer 2226/2206 vs 2204/2205. They seem to think the older ones sound better at low levels because the surround and spider is not so tough. I think some people affiliated with JBL also said this according to one of the guys who responded, nickname "mikebake"

Wayne, I know you've used a lot of JBL drivers. Have you got any comments on this?

I really liked the old 2205's, but I also like the 2226's. I will say that the 2226 is generally preferred by folks that have a little power in the amps though. Even though the speaker is very efficient, the SET guys sometimes prefer other speakers. The 2226 tends to be more at home with amps over ten watts or so. Then again, I've used my little 2 watt Paramours with 2226's and I don't think there is a better combination.

Those 2226's will really handle the power. I've run 'em on lots of amps, from 2.5 watt Paramour 2A3's to megawatt Crown 2400's. They sound great with just a few watts but they're really powerful when you give 'em the current.
